Rena Far

Rena Far is a gifted violinist and won the 2018 Rose Bowl at the Festival and The President’s Award in Student Leadership from the University of Calgary in the same year. She was the orchestra Concertmaster for UCalgary’s 50th-anniversary concert and had three solo performances with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra. Rena uses her talent to help others which she joined the Neurorehabilitation Summer Concert Series and performed for patients recovering from strokes and brain injuries. Rena holds a Doctor of Medicine (MD) and is now a Neurosurgery Resident at the University of Calgary.

Arlen Hlusko

Arlen Hlusko won the Rose Bowl in 2008 and is now an internationally acclaimed cellist who is a laureate of numerous competitions, including a Grammy award. She was a featured performer with the well-known Los Angeles Philharmonic, BBC Concert Orchestra and many more, and featured on CBC’s “30 under 30” in 2021. Hlusko has performed across North America, Asia and Europe. As a teacher, she has served on the faculty of Curtis Summerfest, New York Philharmonic and Philadelphia Orchestra Teaching Artists, and given masterclasses in the USA, Canada, France, and Germany.

Arnold Choi

Arnold Choi is the Principal Cellist of Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra and the 2001 Rosebowl recipient. Choi has performed as a soloist with many orchestras such as Montreal Symphony Orchestra, Quebec Symphony Orchestra and Calgary Civic Symphony throughout North America, Europe and Asia. He is the prize-winner of numerous international Cello Competitions. If you are a concertgoer in Calgary, Arnold must be a familiar face to you.

Lana Henchell

Lana Henchell was the recipient of the Rosebowl award in 1994. She is a pianist who has received top prizes in competitions, including the Stravinsky Awards International Piano Competitions, Shean Piano Competition and the Eckhardt-Gramatté National Piano Competition.

​Lana made her orchestral début with the Calgary Civic Symphony at the age of 13 and has since performed numerous orchestras, including the McGill Symphony, the Montreal Chamber Orchestra, and the Orquestra Classia do Centro in Portugal. Lana teaches privately at the University of Calgary and is also an avid adjudicator and juror for many competitions across Canada.

Michael Hope is the Assistant Principal Bassoonist of Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra and has been a member for nearly 40 years. Most people know him as a bassoonist, but he is also a remarkable vocalist, which he has recently taken the stage centre for the sold-out show Best of Broadway as a singer. Hope won the Rose Bowl in 1984 as a vocalist and is one of Calgary’s most respected artists within the musical community.

Susan Hoeppner

Susan Hoeppner was the Rose Bowl recipient in 1981. She is an international flutist, JUNO nominee, and a graduate of the Juilliard School. Regarded as a “born soloist,” she has performed across North America, South America, Europe, Japan and China. Susan is a member of faculty at the Royal Conservatory’s Glenn Gould School, The Taylor Academy for young gifted artists and the University of Toronto. She is also a co-founder of the online CanAmerican Flute Symposium and Competition and runs her online Insightful Performer Masterclass Series throughout the year. Susan also teaches classes and performs every summer at Le Domaine Forget in Québec, Canada and Campus Internazionale Della Musica d’Arte (CIMA) in Italy.
